Still Waters Lake Crescent Olympic Peninsula Washington © Lee Rentz While traveling around the Olympic Peninsula during the winter, my car radio warned of an impending storm. The air was perfectly still at twilight, and as I followed the shore of Lake Crescent, clouds were massing over the mountains. The lake was dead calm, unusual for a deep lake that normally generates a strong chop. When I reached this dock, the scene cried out for a photograph. In contrast to the serenity of the location, my adrenaline was pumping and I worked hard and fast to capture this memorable image. I love the composition of the diagonal lines formed by the dock and the distant mountains. It is a photograph that invites repeated contemplation.
